# Detent One

> Detent One is a machined aluminum dial with software-defined haptics. It clicks, glides, springs back or stops dead, depending on the app you are in. Software you can feel.

Status: Detent is a concept product. This site is a design and engineering demonstration; nothing is for sale and no payment or personal data is collected. Prices, dates and availability below describe the concept's launch plan; no order, deposit or payment can be placed.

**Finishes**

- Graphite: Anodized near-black. Disappears on a dark desk until you touch it.
- Glacier: Pale blue anodize, the color of cold aluminum at 6 a.m.

**Feel profiles** (software-defined haptics; 64, switched automatically per app)

- Ratchet: Twenty-four crisp clicks per turn, like a good camera dial. Use: Step through frames, list items, undo history.
- Fluid: No clicks. Weighted and slippery, like a flywheel in oil. Use: Scrub timelines, zoom canvases, sweep filters.
- Spring: Pulls back to center. The further you push, the harder it pushes back. Use: Shuttle playback speed, pitch bend, nudge values.
- Clock: Twelve heavy detents with a deeper one at noon. Use: Switch tools, pick brushes, choose tracks.
- Wall: Hard stops at zero and a hundred, a soft bump halfway. Use: Volume, opacity, brush size: anything with a real range.
- Magnet: Smooth until it finds something that matters, then it snaps. Use: Jump between markers, keyframes, git hunks, chorus and verse.

**Questions people ask**

- How does the $20 reservation work? A $20 deposit holds your place and locks the $299 launch price on Detent One. The Founders Edition is always $449; its $50 deposit holds one numbered serial. When your batch is ready we email a ship date and a link to pay the rest; the deposit comes off the price. Cancel any time before it ships for a full refund, one click, no questions.
- When does it ship? Batch 1 ships in February 2027 and Batch 2 in April 2027. Reservations are filled in order, and your confirmation email shows your batch.
- What makes the Founders Edition different? Tally red anodize, a serial number from 0001 to 2000 engraved on the base, a machined walnut plinth, the Founders feel pack and early firmware for life. When the 2,000 are gone, Tally is gone.
- What is software-defined haptics? Instead of a mechanical click, a small brushless motor pushes back on your fingers. Firmware decides where the clicks are, how strong they feel, whether it springs back or stops dead, and it can change that per app in about a millisecond.
- Is it loud? The clicks you feel are silent; the motor is quieter than a keyboard. There is an optional tick sound in the app if you like hearing them.
- Can I use it wirelessly? Yes. Bluetooth LE with three pairings, about 40 hours of active haptics per charge, and weeks on standby. Or leave it plugged in forever; the battery charge limiter keeps it healthy.
- Do I need an account? No. Detent Studio runs locally, profiles live on the device, and nothing is sent anywhere unless you opt in to crash reports.
- What if my app is not supported? Every app gets the system set out of the box: scroll, zoom, undo, volume, brightness and media. Beyond that, the open SDK lets anyone publish a profile, and most community profiles take an evening to write.
- What if I do not love it? Use it for 60 days. If it has not earned its spot on your desk, send it back with the prepaid label for a full refund.
- Can I pay over time? Yes, from December 4, when the store goes live. Checkout splits the price into 4 interest-free payments: $87.25 each for Detent One at $349. It is not offered on deposits or on launch-week orders.
- Where do you ship? The US, Canada, the UK, the EU, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea at launch, with duties included in the price you see.
