Every answer, in one place
Can I write my own profile?

Yes. A profile is plain JSON: detent count, strength, damping, spring, end stops and snap points. The SDK lets any app switch profiles and read the knob; most community profiles take an evening.

Does it need a daemon running?

Detent Studio runs locally to switch profiles per app. Without it, the dial still works as a HID and MIDI device using the 64 profiles stored on it.

What is software-defined haptics?

Instead of a mechanical click, a small brushless motor pushes back on your fingers. Firmware decides where the clicks are, how strong they feel, whether it springs back or stops dead, and it can change that per app in about a millisecond.

Do I need an account?

No. Detent Studio runs locally, profiles live on the device, and nothing is sent anywhere unless you opt in to crash reports.

How does the $20 reservation work?

A $20 deposit holds your place and locks the $299 launch price on Detent One. The Founders Edition is always $449; its $50 deposit holds one numbered serial. When your batch is ready we email a ship date and a link to pay the rest; the deposit comes off the price. Cancel any time before it ships for a full refund, one click, no questions.

What if I do not love it?

Use it for 60 days. If it has not earned its spot on your desk, send it back with the prepaid label for a full refund.
