Ratchet, computed: restoring torque across 1½ turns 24 detents per turn

Where the frames go missing.

  • Overshooting the edit point by three frames

    Ratchet One frame per click

Ratchet puts a detent on every frame: 24 per turn, one frame per click. Your hand stops on the frame, so the playhead does too.

  • JKL gymnastics for a simple trim

Spring Push to play, −4× to 4×

Turn away from center and Spring plays; turn further and it plays faster, up to 4× either way. Let go and it springs back and stops. J, K and L in one hand.

    Magnet Snaps to every marker

Magnet glides until it reaches a marker, then snaps onto it. Mark your selects once and travel the timeline marker to marker, by feel.

In the apps you cut in.

Detent Studio notices which app is in front and loads its profile before your hand gets there. Every other app still gets system controls out of the box: scroll, zoom, undo, volume, brightness and media.

“I stopped overshooting edits in the first hour. The Ratchet click is exactly one frame and my hand learned it before my head did.”

Questions editors ask.

Every answer, in one place
Is frame-stepping exact at 23.976 and 29.97 drop-frame?

Yes. Each detent asks the host for one frame, exactly like the arrow key does, so fractional and drop-frame rates step cleanly. There is no key repeat to overshoot with.

Does it replace my editing keyboard?

No. It replaces the mouse wheel and the jog you never bought. Keep your keyboard for cuts; Detent does the moving between them.

What is software-defined haptics?

Instead of a mechanical click, a small brushless motor pushes back on your fingers. Firmware decides where the clicks are, how strong they feel, whether it springs back or stops dead, and it can change that per app in about a millisecond.

How does the $20 reservation work?

A $20 deposit holds your place and locks the $299 launch price on Detent One. The Founders Edition is always $449; its $50 deposit holds one numbered serial. When your batch is ready we email a ship date and a link to pay the rest; the deposit comes off the price. Cancel any time before it ships for a full refund, one click, no questions.

What if I do not love it?

Use it for 60 days. If it has not earned its spot on your desk, send it back with the prepaid label for a full refund.
